Stephen J. Datz

Stephen Joel Datz, age 47 of Alliance, passed away at 12:31 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center in Canton with his family by his side.
Stephen was born February 19, 1970 in Alliance, Ohio to Joel and Cathy (Karns) Datz.
He attended Stanton Middle School, Alliance High School Class of 1988, Western Reserve Academy, and Bethany College in Bethany, WV and he was an active member of all three football teams where he wore the number 62 and he was active in all the track teams.
Stephen served as Captain and an EMT on the Bethany Fire Department and he also served as an EMT for Weirton Ambulance Service.
Stephen was an active member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church where he helped with vacation bible school. Stephen was an Eagle Scout. He was a Chiefton for the Order of Arrow for numerous years, holding the rank of Vigil.
He was a senior member of Dillon Crist Chapter-Order of DeMolay and Silver Palms recipient of the Lutheran Living Faith Award. While in high school, he received many awards and honors also being named to Boys State and Who's Who among America's High Schools.
Stephen is survived by his parents, Joel and Cathy Datz; sister, Angela M. (Salvador) Datz Blanco of North Carolina; daughter, Whitney Leigh Abbott of West Virginia; uncles, Craig (Carol) Datz and Jon (Linda) Karns both of Alliance; and many cousins in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Canada and overseas.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Ellis and Susan Karns and Kenneth and Margaret Datz; uncle, Clinton K. Datz Jr.; and aunt, Maxine Amber Datz.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Angela Storer officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park.
