Stuart M. Johnston, age 88, of Homeworth, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Community Care Center.
He was born February 22, 1925, in Alliance, to Stuart and Lillas Bea (Hunter) Johnston.
Stuart graduated from Alliance High School and worked at Kuntzman Trucking until his retirement.
A member and trustee of the Middle Sandy Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Stuart was their oldest member. He was also a lifetime member of Knox Township Sportsman Club, a volunteer and member of the Alliance Area Senior Center, and a volunteer and 14 gallon Red Cross blood donor. He loved playing cards and traveling.
Stuart was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include his wife, Esther (Haynam) Johnston to whom he shared their 50th wedding anniversary March 22, 2013; son, Clare (Kathy) Johnston; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lyle Johnston and Clare Johnston; and sisters, Rosanna McGee and Hazel "Hallie" Jones.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Middle Sandy Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Sawyer officiating. Friends may
call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
