Susan "Sue" Eynon, age 85, an Alliance resident for 62 years, passed away on Friday, April 27, at her home in Lantana, Florida, with her daughters by her side. She died from complications of Lymphoma.
Born in Chicago on July 5, 1932, Sue was raised in Davenport, Iowa, by two gentle and fun-loving parents, Helen and Don. An only child, she was fortunate in the social life they created with many dear friends, and in a home filled with the music and dance of the era.
Early on, her parents recognized that their small daughter possessed a unique ability to play the American Standards on the piano, by ear. For the rest of Sue's life, she used her talent at the piano to create joy and sing-alongs with her family, friends and community.
After graduating from Davenport High School in 1950, Sue attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Illinois. There, she made lifelong friends as a Kappa Alpha Theta sorority sister, and met the love of her life and future husband, "Charlie" Eynon of Alliance, Ohio.
During the summer of 1953, Sue and her classmates travelled aboard the RMS Queen Mary for an unforgettable three-month tour of Europe's capital cities led by their art history professor. The experience ignited a lifelong passion for world travel and history.
After graduating from DePauw in 1954, Sue moved to Chicago with a few girlfriends and enjoyed her work in sales at the Merchandise Mart.
In May 1955, Sue married Charlie and they celebrated at the Outing Club in Davenport, Iowa. After honeymooning in Bermuda, the two began life together in Alliance.
Sue was a loving wife and mother of four daughters. She was socially active and involved in the Alliance community. She also had several professional careers.
For more than 30 years, from 1969-2002, she was a part-time dance instructor at Mount Union College. One of the best Jitterbug dancers in town, Sue taught everything from Cha-Cha to Modern dance.
From 1974-1977, Sue was the executive director of the Alliance YWCA, where she and her colleagues provided shelter for battered woman.
In 1979, Sue found her calling in residential real estate sales and soon became a top producer in Stark County for more than three decades. She loved people and finding her clients their perfect home. She won several awards, among them the CRS Designation, given to fewer than 5 percent of realtors across the country.
Sue was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Coterie, Alliance Country Club, Hills and Dales Garden Club, Bridge Club, Alliance Chamber of Commerce, and Carnation City Players. She performed in Fractured Follies, which benefitted the Alliance Community Hospital. For many years, she served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army of Alliance.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Helen (Brundige) and Donald Healey; her husband, Charles C. Eynon; her sister-in-law, Jane Moncrief; and her aunt and uncle by marriage, Eleanor (Ellett) and Bill Thompson.
Sue is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth (David) Wetherell of Palm Beach, FL; Linda Welch of Delray Beach, FL; Carol Eynon of Kingston, NY; and Jill Eynon of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, Emily Welch, Daniel Welch, and Graham Eynon-Holloway; three nieces, Kathleen (Richard) Elias, Martha (Brian) Stafford, Rebecca (Mark) Skipper; and several grand nieces and nephews.
