Thelma M. Graebing, age 84 of Alliance, died Sunday morning June 12, 2005 in her home. Born April 4, 1921 in Dillonvale, Ohio, she was the daughter of James W. and Edna M. (Coffman) Lappin.
She grew up in Canton, Ohio and graduated from Canton McKinley High School. She moved to Alliance when she married in 1946.
Thelma was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she served as deacon, trustee, and elder. She also sang in the choir and worked in the nursery and kitchen. She was also active in the Presbyterian Women and Church Women United organizations. She was honored by Church Women United by being selected as a Valiant Woman in 2002.
Thelma was active in PTA and Women's Life Insurance Society where she held several offices.
Mrs. Graebing worked for Republic Steel in Canton and Massillon and Buckeye Village Market. She worked on elections for many years and was a member of the Alliance Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene G. Graebing, her parents, three sisters Cleo Pearson, Beatrice Burke, and Dorothy Mercer; three brothers Willard Lappin, Clarence Lappin and Bill Lappin.
She is survived by her brother Charles H. Lappin of Massillon, her daughter, Janet M. Marteney of Alliance; two grandsons Benjamin J. and Abraham J. Marteney.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William Sadler officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
