Thomas Tierney "Tom" Teeters, age 68, of Alliance, passed away at 12:12 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center.
He was born September 15, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky to Dr. John W. and Alma (Tierney) Teeters.
A 1961 graduate of Alliance High School, Tom attended Ohio State University before entering the United States Navy as Machinist Mate 3rd Class. After serving four years in the Navy, he attended Kent State Salem before graduating from the former National Electronics School in Canton with an Associate's Degree.
Tom was employed by Motorola Communications for 30 years until retiring in 1996 as Regional Account Manager and received several of their highest achievement awards.
Tom was a life member of the VFW Post 1036, and American Legion Post 166; member of Conrad Masonic Lodge #271 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Tadmor Shrine, Nomads Camping Unit of the Tadmor Shrine Club, Vietnam Veterans of America, and life member of BPOE Elks 467.
Tom was very devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He thought of everyone as a friend the first time he spoke with them. He loved to talk, and talked with everyone. He was very passionate about Ohio State Football and the Mount Union College Football teams. He also loved his country music; had an appreciation for antiques and stoneware; enjoyed traveling; and thought of his family animals as his children.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Diana Lynn (Detchon) Teeters, whom he married April 23, 1966; daughters, Tierney (Tom) Bratten, and Sarah (Mike) Oakes; grandchildren, Eryn, Tyler, and Abigail Oakes, and Adam and Bo Bratten; sister, Cheryl (Bob) Egan, and two brothers, James M. Teeters and David W. Teeters; two nieces, Libby and Sarah; two nephews, Greg and Ryan; and one sister-in-law.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; three infant grandchildren, Ethan, Nathan, and Evan Bratten, and one nephew, Aaron Teeters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Sawyer of Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, with Masonic Services to be held at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Community Hospital Cardiac Rehab Unit, 200 E. State St. Alliance, Ohio 44601. Tom was the longest attending cardiac rehab patient which he attributed to maintaining his cardiac health and quality of life.
