Thu-Hoa Thi Triplett died at her home on her birthday, November 4, 2008 surrounded by her family. She fought a valiant 18-month struggle against cancer.
She was born Tran Thi Thu-Hoa (Autumn Blossom) in Vinh Binh, Tra-Vinh, Vietnam on November 4, 1949, the daughter of Tran Huu Nhan and Dam Thi Can.
She is survived by her husband of more than 39 years, Franklin I. Triplett, III; three daughters, Elizabeth Niemeyer of Louisville, Ohio, Jaime Endsley of Norwalk, Ohio and Mary Fellers of Zanesville, Ohio; one son, Christopher Triplett of Red Bank, New Jersey, as well as seven grandchildren. She has two half-brothers and several cousins, nieces and nephews in Vietnam and a niece in Hawaii.
Mrs. Triplett, known as Thu among her friends, was an exceptionally skilled tailor and seamstress. She had tremendous talent and experience in designing, creating and sewing clothes without the benefit of patterns, from wedding dresses to men's suits. She had also worked as an upholsterer and pattern-maker.
She was a gourmet cook and for many years taught cooking classes in the University Studies Abroad Consortium's summer program in Pau, France. Her classes in France were attended by American, French and Vietnamese students and she passed many of her recipes on to her daughters and her taste for fine cooking to her entire family.
In addition to cooking, one of her favorite activities was world travel. She lived at different moments in her life in Vietnam, France, Hawaii and Ohio. In recent years she had visited England, France, Spain, China, Japan, Vietnam and India. She made a pilgrimage last December to the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Lourdes, France. Only a few months ago, she and her husband vacationed in Puerto Rico.
Most significantly, she was a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Her strength of character, her wealth of common sense and her selfless devotion to her family were great sources of inspiration for her family. Her grandchildren gave her extraordinary fulfillment and pleasure and she enjoyed the blessing of seeing most of the grandchildren frequently.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, Ohio.
