Vance R. Roberts, age 69 of Atwater, died at his home at 6:25 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005.
He was born August 19, 1935 in Newark, Ohio to Clifford and Esther (Hamilton) Roberts and lived in Atwater for the past 32 years.
Mr. Roberts attended Ohio State University and was employed by AT&T until retiring in 1989.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Alliance, where he served as a member of the board of directors, and property chairman. He was also a member of the Administration Committee, a sound technician, and member of Questors Sunday school class.
He was a former member of DeMolay, Newark Masonic Lodge F&AM, Atwater Lions Club, Telephone Pioneers, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, formerly served as a Zoning Inspector in Atwater, volunteer at Pegasus Farm, and was active with the Waterloo 4-H Club.
Mr. Roberts enjoyed fishing in Canada, snow-skiing, photography, and horses.
Survivors include his wife, Joan L. (Fletcher) Ward Roberts, whom he married Oct. 26, 1985; daughter, Treva Roberts of New Albany, Ohio; sons, Mark (Terry) Roberts of Highland Lakes, New Jersey, Tim (Carla) Ward of East Canton, Ohio, Brian Ward of Jackson, Michigan, and Sgt. First Class, Charles (Wendy) Ward of Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; five grandchildren, Ashley, Bryttne, Rachel, Nathalie, and Kyle, one brother, Curtis (Ruth Ann) Roberts of Pasadena, California, two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Sean Tyler Ward.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Atwater Cemetery.
