Velma Irene (Bert) Snyder, age 80, of Laughlin, Nevada, formerly of Alliance, died at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011, at her daughter, Gayle Perkins' home, in Nevada with her family by her side. She was born August 7, 1930, in Alliance, Ohio, to Fred and Jessie (Robinson) Bert. Velma was a Cafeteria Aide for Alliance Public Schools for 12 years and also a volunteer in the library of the former Morgan Elementary School. Survivors include her daughters, Becky Barnhouse of Alliance and Gayle Perkins of Laughlin, Nevada; son, Craig Alan Snyder of Canton; four grandchildren, Emmy Elkins, Cory and Eric Parrish and Aimee Akers; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter E. Snyder, whom she married February 6, 1949 and who died December 2001; son, Gary Lee Snyder in 1969; sister, June Hahlen in December of 2009. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Stonebraker of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
