Vicki Barret Herbert, age 64, of Alliance/Louisville, passed away at 8:35 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Altercare of Louisville, after a 13 year battle with cancer.
She was born February 7, 1952, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Eugene "Duke" and Delores (Mathey) Barret.
Vicki received her Bachelor in Health and Physical Education at Miami University and her Masters at Kent State University in Library Sciences. She was a Physical Education teacher at Marlington Middle School for 10 years and head of libraries for Marlington Local Schools for 22 years.
She was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church where she was in the praise band choir. She was also a lifetime member of the Ohio Education Association and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Vicki enjoyed painting, gardening, making crafts and following her children's sports, never missing a game. She was passionate about people, loved her family and extended family, and enjoyed the family cottage in Hancock, New York.
Survivors include her father, "Duke", who passed away two days after Vicki; husband, Dale Herbert whom she married July 24, 1976; children, Daniel R. (Chelsea) Herbert, Jonathan B. (Lauren) Herbert and Matthew J. (Brandi) Herbert; grandchildren, Savannah, Kennedy, Issac, and Mason; sister, Christi Barret of Annapolis, Maryland; numerous cousins and nephews; best friend, Carol Bourne; and her dog, Sadie.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Delores; and sister, Shelia Barret.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Union Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Coralee Cox and Rev. Hoyt Wilhelm co-officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Akron General or to the University of Mount Union, for the Vicki B. Herbert endowed scholarship.
