Virginia May Crist Mangus, age 88, of Alliance, formerly of Homeworth, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Canterbury Villa.
She was born July 4, 1922, in Alliance, to Lewis and Caroline Virginia (Miller) Fisher and has been a lifelong resident.
Virginia was a 1940 graduate of Alliance High School. She was employed as a sales clerk at the former O'Neils and Grant Department Stores and from 1962-1982 she was owner of Kiddee Korner (a children's clothing store) in Minerva.
A member of the Middle Sandy Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Virginia belonged to the Amatola Sunday school class, was an elder at the church and President of the Women's Association for three years. She also served as a Pink Lady at Alliance Community Hospital for more than twelve years.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Stephen) Buck of Louisville; three grandchildren, Krista and Kevin Ray and Dr. Eric Buck; four great-grandchildren, Abby Honabarger, Kacey Ray, Logan and Riley Buck; stepbrother, James (Barbara) Fisher of Alliance; and three stepchildren, Kenny (Amy) Mangus, Linda (Scott) McDonald and Mark (Melanie) Mangus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lowell Crist, whom she married March 3, 1945 and who died August 29, 1987; second husband, Howard A. Mangus, whom she married February 15, 1992 and who died December 7, 2004; brother, Paul Fisher; sister, Marilyn O'Neil of Daytona Beach, Fla.: and daughter, Sally Ray, in 1995.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Sawyer officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
