Walter L. Laskie, age 83 of North Georgetown, and formerly of Olmstead Falls, Ohio died at his home at 8 a.m. Thursday July 27, 2006.
He was born June 11, 1923 in Bucyrus, Kansas to John and Nira (Kirby) Laskie and lived in the Alliance area for the past three years.
A 1941 graduate of Bucyrus High School in Kansas, Mr. Laskie was employed as a Welder for the Teleweld Corp. and later retired from Newburg and South Shore Railroad as a Supervisor.
He was a member of the First Brethren Church of North Georgetown.
Mr. Laskie had been active in his church in Bucyrus; was a life member of the VFW Post 1036 in Alliance; member of the American Legion Post 574 in North Georgetown; and enjoyed fishing in Minnesota.
He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and received four bronze service stars.
He is survived by his wife, Waneta C. (Thorne) Laskie, whom he married June 13, 1953; one daughter, Sandra Marsh of North Georgetown; two granddaughters, Shannon (Marcus) Bernard-Adams of Ashland, Ohio, and Lindsey Marsh of North Georgetown; one step-grandson, Kenneth Marsh of Washington, Pa.; and one step-granddaughter, Kelly (Brian) Marsh-Anderson of Starkville, Miss.
Mr. Laskie was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Mitchell Funkhouser of the First Brethren Church of North Georgetown officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be at North Georgetown Cemetery.
