Walter A. Rhoads of Alliance died at the age of 92 at The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky surrounded by his loving family and the excellent staffs of Stein Hospice and the Ohio Veterans Home on September 13, 2007.
Walt was born in Alliance, Ohio, a son of Frank Isaac and Dora (Dustman) Rhoads.
He attended Alliance High School, was employed by Ohio Power in boiler maintenance for four years and Transue and Williams for 39 years. His employment at Transue and Williams was interrupted by World War II. He served in the Navy on a Submarine Chaser for three years in the European and Africa theaters and was honorably discharged December 4, 1945. He retired from Transue and Williams in 1977 as a Die Repairman.
Survivors include his daughter, Marlene (Charles) Sutphen of Avon, Ohio; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Lillian; his brothers Howard, George, and Woodrow; his sister, Doris Beutler; a daughter Janice Nichols; a granddaughter; and two great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Dr. David Bloor of Bolton United Methodist church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
