Wayne Sherman Lare, age 79, of Alliance, died at 4:00 a.m. Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his home.
He was born Oct. 16, 1927 in Limaville, Ohio to Sherman and Carrie (Pontius) Lare and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Lare graduated in 1945 from the former Marlboro High School and attended Mount Union College. He worked for Republic LTV Steel (Berger and Union Drawn Divisions) for 43 years, retiring in 1989.
A very active member of Beechwood United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School for more than 40 years, was a member of Beechwood Pioneers, served on Administrative Council, and many other offices, including Lay member to the East Ohio Annual Conference for many years.
He was a member of United Steel Workers of America; former member of the Marlboro Grange; and member of the Society of Mayflower Descendents in the State of Ohio, as he was very active in genealogical research.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Thornberry) Lare, whom he married June 21, 1947; two sons, Rev. Donald Wayne (Rosemary) Lare of Elyria, and Mark Alan (Brenda) Lare of Alliance; one granddaughter, Ann Marie Hossler of Dellroy; six grandsons, Nathan of VanWert, Nicholas of Canton, Mark Alan W. of Alliance, Chad Alan W. of Zephyrhills, Fla., Brent Alan W. of Alliance, and Trevor Paul of Ventura, Ca.; great-grandchildren, Grace, Liesel, Haylee, Emma, Matthew, Katelynn and Garrett; two sisters, Norma Wasson of Alliance, and Marietta Monroe of North Canton, one brother, Rev. Marvin Lare of Columbia, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Beechwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Wallace officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
