Wilbur C. Penrod, age 84, of Alliance, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at Aultman Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1922 in Maximo, Ohio to Clark and Mary (Wittwer) Penrod and was a lifelong resident.
Wilbur graduated from Alliance High School and retired in 1986 from the former Alliance Machine as a carpenter after 33 years of service.
Mr. Penrod is a U.S. Army WWII Veteran and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre, was the recipient of three bronze stars and fought in the Normandy Invasion. On the 50th Anniversary of the Invasion, June 6, 1994, he received a medal of Jubilee from the French Government.
He attended Trinity Episcopal Church. Wilbur enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid boater and golfer. He was a life member of B.P.O.E. 467, a member of American Legion George D. Worth Post 574 of North Georgetown and Eagles McKinley Aerie # 2370 of Canton.
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Yvonne M. (Kindler) Penrod, whom he married Oct. 22, 1949; children, Dawn (Robert) Battershell, Susan Waseman and companion Tim Wise both of Marlboro, John C. (Kathy) Penrod and Amy L. (J. "Murph") McCarthy both of Alliance; grandchildren, Michael Battershell of Hartville, Kristy Howard of Marlboro, Scott and Bryan Geiselman of Easton P.A., Amanda McCrobie of Minerva, John Penrod of Canton and Brook Penrod of North Canton; five great- grandchildren; sisters Elaine Getz of Salem, Margaret Skivolocke, Evelyn Jones and Carol Davidson, all of Alliance and beloved dog Bubba.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Vernon and Lawrence Penrod.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. An Elks service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Private services will be held at a later date.
