William H. Davis, age 86, passed away unexpectedly and went to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:28 AM on Monday, November 28, 2011. A life-long resident of Alliance, Ohio, he was born on July 15, 1925 to Howard James and Jane (McCreadie) Davis.
Bill was a January 1947 graduate of Alliance High School after proudly serving three years in the US Navy in the Pacific arena during World War II. Shortly after graduating, he began a forty year career at Babcock and Wilcox Research and Development in Alliance, beginning as a welder, becoming an electrician, then a foreman and finally, Supervisor of the Maintenance Department. During that time he graduated from Salem Trade School with an Associate Degree as an electrician. He used those skills not only at B&W but also in running his own business, D&G Electric. Many a house in the Alliance area had their electric wiring done by Bill. He had many other skills that allowed him to assist his brother, Jim, in building a house for their parents (as well as three for Jim) and to assist his son-in-law, Mike, in building two homes. Always a willing worker, Bill helped family and friends with countless home improvement projects, major and minor. After returning from the Navy, Bill played semi-pro football with Alliance' North End AC. As an active member of the Vine Street United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served for many years as the Trustee Chairperson. Bill loved spending time with family and traveling, especially cruise vacations. He loved flying, and even enjoyed hot air balloon rides and parasailing. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 166, the Retired Teachers Association, Alliance Senior Center, and was a "gung ho" blood donor. He was especially blessed with being part of "The Gang" (aka - The Breakfast Club), a group of couples who are lifelong friends.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Wehner) Davis, whom he married September 4, 1949; son, Bruce Alan (Susan) Davis of Allendale, NJ; daughters Karen Sue (G. Richard) Noel of Vienna, WV, Joan Louise (Dana) Norman of Alliance, and Mary Jane (Michael) Monfort of Hudson, OH; grandchildren Meredith and Emily Davis, Margo (Aaron) Gardner, Sarah (Steven Cuttler) Noel, Nicole (Selwyn) Huhn, Leanna (Michael) Ball, and Michael, Jennifer, and Stephen Monfort; great-grandchildren Gabrielle and Noah, and Aunt Ina "Scotty" Hays.
