William C. "Chuck" Earnest

William C. "Chuck" Earnest, age 68, of Deerfield, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born May 17, 1948, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Glenn J. and Lucille M. (Notman) Earnest and was a lifelong resident of Deerfield.
Prior to graduating from South East High School, Chuck worked for Kaley Lumber and was hired in 1967 at the Ravenna Arsenal as a carpenter while working for Larry's Sohio. He went on to become a fireman at the Arsenal for the next 25 years while also being a real estate agent for R.J. Walters Realty. He owned and operated Earnest Trucking for 45 years, finishing his career at American Steel Foundries. He was a volunteer fireman for Deerfield Fire Department until 1980 when he was elected trustee of Deerfield for the next 20 years. He was a member of the Deerfield Methodist Church, Deerfield Historical Society and the Deerfield Ruritans Club and several fish and game clubs.
Survivors include his daughters, Beth Hurd (Ted Biery) of Edinburg and Jill Earnest-Shimek of Canton; three grandchildren, Andrew (Elizabeth) Hurd, Jayme Hurd (Josh Seiger) and Jacob Shimek; two great-granddaughters Alexis and Allison; sister, Connie (Jim) Negley; two brothers, Jim (Paulette) Earnest and Terry Earnest; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a special niece, "Chrissy."
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Deerfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deerfield Historical Society 2071 Bonner Rd., Deerfield, OH 44411, the Deerfield Fire Department 9482 State Rt. 225, Deerfield, OH 44411, or the Deerfield Methodist Church P.O. Box 43, Deerfield, OH 44411.
