William J. Eyer Jr

William J. Eyer, Jr, age 98, of Alliance, passed away at 11:10 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 7, 1918, in Bayard, Ohio, to William J. Sr. and Erma V. (Walter) Eyer and has lived in the Alliance vicinity since 1920.
A graduate of Alliance High School, William attended one year at Stark State, two years at Akron University and four years at Salem Tech.
William's work history included being a purchasing agent at Alliance Machine for 49 years retiring in 1984, previously as an inspector at Globex Corp in Youngstown for nine years and also a Palm Beach Florida Deputy Sheriff.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Reformed Church on Oxford Street. He was also a member of the DAV, an antique collector, Boy Scout commissioner for more than eight years, and a Washington Township volunteer fireman.
William was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Battle of the Bulge/Ardennes and World War II European Theater. He received a Bronze Star and a combat infantry badge.
Survivors include his son, William J. (Patricia) Eyer III of Minerva; six grandchildren, William Eyer IV, Terry Rothermel, and Tracy Baxter, Matt Eyer, Jon Eyer and Nicole O'Lear of Canton; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Eyer, in 1997; wife of 73 years, Kathryn V. (Thomas) Eyer, whom he married September 1, 1939 and who died September 26, 2012; and a sister. Donna Jean Schultz.
Mr. Eyer's family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday at Alliance City Cemetery with interment to follow.
