William H. Fiegenschuh, Jr., age 67, of Alliance, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 28, 2015, at his home with his loving wife, Sandi by his side.
Bill was born in Alliance, Ohio, on August 27, 1947, to William H. Sr. and Joanne Fiegenschuh.
He graduated from Alliance High School and was honored to be chosen as a distinguished alumnus. He attended Mount Union College and left Alliance to attend Northwestern Medical School and returned to Akron City Hospital for his surgical residence. He returned to Alliance in 1978 and shared a practice with Dr. Keith Noble for a short time prior to Dr. Nobles' retirement. Bill then continued solo practice and was chief of surgery at Alliance Community Hospital.
Bill was privileged to return home to Alliance and give back to his hometown community. After retiring from surgery, Bill found a need to help others with the disease of alcoholism and addiction. He began a fellowship at University Hospitals in Cleveland and opened a practice of addiction medicine in North Canton. Bill was director of Impact at Mercy Medical Center. He then again retired in December of 2012 due to health reasons.
Bill was a longtime member of Questers and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
His hobbies included fishing, reading, crosswords and spending time in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Bill especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sandi (Strong) Fiegenschuh; two sons, Michael (Suzanne) Fiegenschuh of Seattle, Washington and Matthew (Denise) Fiegenschuh of Alliance; stepson, Erik Davies of Canton; grandchildren, Benjamin, Brook and Molly Fiegenschuh; sister, Judy Huffman of Leland, North Carolina; and step-sister, Nanci Daniher of Cincinnati; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne Fiegenschuh; father, William H. Fiegenschuh, Sr.; and step-mother, Ruth Fiegenschuh.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
Special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Alliance Community Hospital, Alliance Hospice, Dr. Mark Hostettler and Pastor Timothy Muse for their loving and compassionate care during his illness.
