William G. Messenheimer

William G. “Bill” Messenheimer, age 94, of Alliance, passed away on October 13, 2022.

He was born on August 5, 1928, to William F. and Hazel L. (Snyder) Messenheimer and raised in North Canton and Canton, Ohio. Bill was a 1946 graduate of Canton McKinley High School where he played football and was captain of the baseball team. He also served as class officer. Following graduation, Bill joined the Marine Corps (1946-1948), attended Michigan State University and later the Ohio School of Banking at Ohio University. He retired in 1993 from Bank One after 42 years of service in various financial institutions.

Bill was a 62 year member of Christ United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, on the finance committee and twice as church treasurer. He also played on the church slow-pitch team. Bill played baseball in the Marine Corps, and also on various teams in Kentucky, North Carolina, Canton and Alliance. He also enjoyed bowling and golf.

Bill served as a vice president of the Alliance Jaycees, president of the Alliance Lions Club and was a member of the American Legion.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Phyllis (Zeller); his daughters, Donna Essick of Alliance and Linda Hendershot of Grandville, MI; grandchildren, Stephen (Afton) Hendershot of Alexandria, VA, Jan Essick of Alliance, Sara (Kyle) Johnson of Jenison, MI, and Amy Essick of Lakewood, OH; and great-granddaughters, Avery and Peyton Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Jean Muntean and Alice Goodin; baby daughter; and son-in-law, John Essick.

There will be no calling hours or services at this time. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Windsor Medical Center and Aultman Hospice and Palliative Care for their excellent and compassionate care of Bill during the last ten months.
