William E. "Bill" Ray, age 75 of Alliance, died at 6:10 p.m. March 23, 2006 at Aultman Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1930 in Mechanicstown, Ohio to Everett and Eleanor (Bebout) Ray and lived in Alliance for the past 37 years.
Mr. Ray graduated in 1949 from Carrollton High School and attended Kent State University.
Bill started as a door-to-door bread salesman and worked his way up to Sales Manager for Nickles Bakery, retiring after 43 years of service.
He was a member of Beechwood Christian Church, sang in the choir and was a member of the Sonshiners Senior Group. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1036 of Alliance and the Alliance Senior Center. Bill was a past member of the Mount Union Alliance Choral, Louisville Community Chorus and SPEBSQSIA.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia "Pat" (Haldeman), whom he married Nov. 4, 1952; two sons, Dana W. (Pam) Ray of Canton, and Mark A. (Elizabeth) Ray of Painesville; one daughter, Beth (Rich) Tomczyk of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Alison Ray, Amanda Ray, and Danny Tomczyk, and step-granddaughter Cyndi Stafford.
Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Beechwood Christian Church with Andrew Higle officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
