William Shipp

August 24, 1919 — December 10, 2008

William J. Shipp, age 89, of Alliance, died at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Roselawn Terrace.
He was born August 24, 1919, in Burwell, Nebraska to Ernest and Lillian (Ungar) Shipp.
William graduated from high school in Superior, Nebraska and was a self employed painter until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran having served during the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Europe-Africa-Middle East Medal with two Bronze Stars, an American Theatres Service Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
William is affiliated with United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, NC and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his step-sons, Virgil D. (Claire) Springer of Sebring and Royal J. (Edie) Springer of Alliance; five grandchildren, Debra Adam of Miami, FL, Royal B. Springer and Aimee Friedmann, both of Ventura, CA, Timothy Springer of Petersburg, OH, Nancy Tucker of Alliance; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Mildred (Barkdoll) Springer Shipp.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St. Canfield, Ohio 44406-9274 or to the donor's choice of charity.
