William R. Wyss Sr

William R. Wyss Sr., age 81 of Alliance, passed away at 8:23 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born December 18, 1935, at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio, to William E. Wyss and Gladys F. (Hime) Wyss.
A 1953 graduate of Minerva High School, Bill attended Mount Union College.
He worked at the Minerva Dairy, Minerva Wax Paper, and Babcock and Wilcox. At Transue & Williams, he was active in the Boilermaker/Blacksmiths Union, acted as the chair of the times study committee and served on several bargaining teams. To further his understanding of labor relations, he studied at Kenyon College and the George Meany Institute. From 1982 to 1996 he was the co-owner of Milann's Restaurant in Louisville.
A U. S. Army veteran, Bill served with the Corps of Engineers at Fort Richardson in Alaska building landing strips for the Strategic Air Command. After his discharge, he was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis.
Bill was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Minerva and was a longtime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Legion, VFW and Moose Club. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Adrienne F. (Russell) Wyss, whom he married May 23, 1956; son, William R. (Lora) Wyss Jr., of Louisville; granddaughters, Rebecca Wyss and Sarah Wyss; and brother, Franklin E. Wyss of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Muse officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
