Wilma L. May age 89, of Alliance, died at 7:52 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at her home.
She was born January 19, 1923, in Alliance, to Clarence H. and Twila M. (Yarian) Grate.
A January 1941 graduate of Alliance High School and Alliance Business College, Wilma worked as an office clerk for Taylorcraft Aviation Corp. from 1941 to 1945, Lewis Engineering Company from 1945 to 1947 and Babcock and Wilcox Research Center from 1947 to 1955; and also a poll worker at the Stark County Board of Elections.
Wilma was a member of the Vine Street United Methodist Church, Alliance Senior Citizens Club, and AARP.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara J. (Robert) Risden Jr. of Alliance; grandson, Michael Risden and great-grandson Johnathan; grandson, Steven Risden and great-grandchildren Tyler and Alyssa; and six out-of-state step-grandchildren and their families.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John H. May, who died September 12, 1989; son, John H. May Jr. who died August 12, 2010; and a brother, Don Grate, who died January 23, 1968.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. David Bloor officiating. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
