Winston Alan Wurgler, age 68, of Sunset Beach, NC, formerly of Alliance, died at 12:25 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2008 at Dayton Hospice Center in Dayton, Ohio.
He was born October 10, 1939 in Alliance, Ohio to the late Fritz and Helen Wurgler-Rattay.
Winston was a 1957 graduate of Alliance High School and a 1960 graduate of Indiana Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical engineering. He completed graduate school at Akron University with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He was formerly employed at Kerma Corporation, Morgan Engineering and Simplimatic, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Elks and the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, traveling, reading and following the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Winston is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Kay (Rose) Wurgler whom he married May 28, 1960; his two daughters, Jodi (Jerry) Kirwan of Springboro, Ohio and Carey (Roy) Smith of Haymarket VA; his son, Barry Wurgler, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Lindsie, Jay, and Daniel Kirwan and Kyle, Kristin and Brian Smith; two sisters, Eleanor Fredley and Bonne Hill; three brothers, Karl, Hank and Fritz Wurgler; nieces; nephews; many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Winston was preceded in death by his brother, Erwin Wurgler.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Karin Himstedt of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Winston's Memory be made to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Care Center at www.mskcc.org to further research on esophageal cancer.
